How do you spell it??

<---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So I have got a little thing going with my husband and some of my favorite people.
And now I am seeking the help of the masses because it looks like I am losing the battle.
<---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I need you to take this little poll over here (well to the left).
The question is: If you were talking about your "favorite" things like movies, for example, and you wanted to shorten that word "favorite", would you spell it "favs" or "faves"?
As in, "Oh! Any good Patrick Dempsey romantic comedy always goes into my favs!" Or would it be, "Oh! All of Drew Barrymore's romantic comedies are in my faves!"??
<----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So how do you spell it??
I will be back later with an explanation.

Hope I voted in your favor!! :) Because your my fav!!!

i voted. i think it's faves. gramatically the e makes the a long. if you did it without the e it would be with a short a.

I vote "faves" for the same reasons Amy said.

I say "faves". But when it's a made-up word, I don't think it matters too much! ;)

I would spell it favs. But I'm a engineer and very bad at grammer and spelling...go figure. Looks like the others spell it the other way...haha.

Either way, i hope your right!

Duh! Gmac, it is totally favEs! I mean, really! You had to do a poll?!?!

Tell Lee he is the Grammer-Spelling-Bees-Knees!

hahahahahahahaha!

G. Really. We had to resort to a poll?
No matter the spelling, you are one of my Faves! (or Favs depending on where you are from).

another comment to defend FAVS. In the word favorite, there is no E after the v, and since we are shortening that word, why add the E?? Quite a controversy you have started, Gretchen!! :-)

I have to go with the Amys (Amies?) and say I agree- grammatically, if you're making a vowel the "long sound," you are to add an e at the end of the word.

Sorry chic. You are still my fave, though. ;)

I voted for favs but apparently I'm wrong. LOL

i always type fav but felt like i was possibly wrong but also felt like i couldn't change my ways.

Standard English spelling holds that the final "e" makes the vowel in front of it "long"-sounding like its name. When there is no final "e" the peceding vowel has a "short" sound so an "a" would sound like the "a" in "bat".

I say faves too. Why? Who knows it what looks good to me.
